Banish Sun Damage With Non-Invasive IPL Therapy

There’s no doubt about it, the Florida sunshine is therapeutic and offers many benefits. That’s why it attracts so many snowbirds, jet-setters, and sunshine lovers year-round. However, years of living in the sunshine state can bring some unpleasant effects to your skin. This is most commonly seen in the form of sunspots, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

Now you can erase the sun damage and get younger-looking skin in no time. Anthony N. Dardano, DO, FACS offers patients living in Boca Raton, Florida IPL therapy so they can get radiant, flawless skin.

How it works

Do you have dull and sagging skin? If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your skin when you look in the mirror, IPL laser therapy may be for you.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted laser energy. During an IPL treatment, Dr. Dardano first gives you protective eyewear to put on while he applies a gel over your skin. Next, he moves a handheld laser gently across your skin, which penetrates light energy deep into your epidermis. This process administers tiny injuries in your skin, leaving behind improved skin tone, color, and elasticity.

Most procedures take about twenty minutes to complete, and a majority of patients don’t describe it to be painful but rather uncomfortable. The feeling is similar to having a rubber band snapped against your skin. When Dr. Dardano is completed with the IPL treatment, he will remove the gel and apply sunscreen to your skin.

Benefits

IPL therapy is so effective because it treats multiple skin concerns in one treatment. That means you’ll save time and money by eliminating the need for extra skincare procedures.

In every IPL treatment, you’ll reduce the appearance of sunspots and wrinkles. You’ll tighten your skin and eliminate the sagging that comes with aging. It also reduces the appearance of unwanted spider veins and broken capillaries.

Many patients are pleased to find IPL helps their skin regain a glowing, even-toned color. IPL treats skin patchiness by smoothing the appearance of your skin. It also reduces the size of your pores, which allows make-up to glide on more smoothly.

Aftercare

If you’re interested in IPL therapy, you’re probably wondering what the aftercare is like. Immediately following treatment, you might experience redness and some raised bumps in the treatment area. However, a cold compress or hydrocortisone may be applied to ease some of the discomfort.

Do not use hot water or retinol products until your skin irritation has healed. Avoid working out or any physical activity for 2-3 days following treatment.

Dr. Dardano advises you to avoid sun exposure for 4-6 weeks after treatment and suggests applying an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen. Do not tweeze or wax the skin area being treated — shaving is the only hair removal method that can be used.
