Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a part of your blood that contains large quantities of potent growth factors. The growth factors help with healing, including the growth of new collagen and elastin, which supports skin revitalization. At Anthony N. PRP Q & A

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance extracted from your blood. Your blood contains platelets with enormous restorative powers, but they’re spread out all through your body. PRP therapy focuses on isolating the growth factors from a blood sample and then injecting the PRP where you need it.

PRP therapy is used in many ways in the medical field today. PRP facials are popular in the aesthetics field because they can help repair and restore your skin. If you’ve got common signs of aging skin like volume loss, loose skin, and rough skin texture, PRP facials can be an excellent solution.

How does a PRP facial work?

PRP facials at Rejuvenax Spa in the office of Anthony N. Dardano, DO, FACS, start with a blood draw. Your care provider usually takes the blood from your arm — just like any other blood testing. A centrifuge circulates your blood very quickly, which separates your blood into layers. Your treatment provider draws the PRP into a syringe and safely disposes of the remaining blood.

Your care provider can inject the PRP directly into your face using an ultrafine syringe, but microneedling is now the most popular way to get a PRP facial. In microneedling, your provider numbs your face with a topical cream and then uses a small group of tiny needles (0.1  to 2.5 mm each) to make punctures in your skin.

The needles stimulate the cells in your dermis, where you synthesize collagen and elastin. This stimulation launches collagen and elastin remodeling. Microneedling can also help break down scar tissue, like acne scars. With new channels directly into your dermis freshly created, it’s the ideal time to administer PRP. Your care provider smooths and massages the PRP into the microneedling channels to magnify results to the maximum degree.

What are the benefits of a PRP facial?

A PRP facial can help with aging skin problems of all types. PRP with microneedling can even help reduce scars. After a PRP facial, your skin grows firmer, tighter, and younger-looking in the weeks and months ahead. PRP facials can minimize fine lines and wrinkles, smooth the skin, and combat sagging. Many patients love PRP facials because they’re natural, using only your blood for excellent results.
